YOUTH from the Salvation Army’s Bath Corps earned the right to represent northern New England in next month’s territorial “Star Search” gospel arts competition in New York. The students competed against corps from Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont during the divisional competition on May 5 in Portland. The territorial contest will be June 9 and feature firstplace winners from as far away as Puerto Rico, Ohio and Kentucky. The Bath group earned first place in Drama Troupe. Additionally, five members earned first place in Timbrel group A; Mardi Farmer earned first for Solo Sacred Dance level 1 and Jeff Leighton was tops in Solo Brass level 2. To fund the trip to New York, the group is planning fundraisers, including a spaghetti dinner on Memorial Day. Call The Salvation Army at 443-3611 for details. People can donate by mailing or dropping off a monitery donation to The Salvation Army Bath, 25 Congress Ave., Bath, ME 04530; or can participate in any of the planned events planned, meet the children and give as desired.
