ROCKPORT (AP) — State officials say Maine businesses exported a record $3.4 billion in goods in 2011, a 9 percent increase from 2010’s figure.

Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner George Gervais also says Maine has about 2,000 exporting companies, and the number is growing.

Gervais discussed those trends Thursday during Maine International Trade Day in Rockport. About 300 people attended.

One of the exporting businesses is Falcon Performance Footwear, which has participated in trade missions to Canada and South America. Because of increased demand for its products, Falcon accelerated a decision to move into a new manufacturing facility in Auburn and add four new jobs this year.
