PORTLAND — The Portland Sea Dogs put together a five-run rally in the seventh inning to beat the New Britain Rock Cats 8-5 Sunday afternoon, before 6,663 at Hadlock Field.
Reynaldo Rodriguez keyed the Sea Dogs offense with a 3-for-5 day, including his team-leading 11th home run, two doubles and three RBI.
Juan Carlos Linares had three hits, and Jeremy Hazelbaker added a triple and home run.
Jeremy Kehrt (2-0) picked up the win with 3 2/3 innings of one-hit relief.
The Rock Cats led 4-0 in the fourth inning, helped by Evan Bigley’s three-run homer off starter Chris Martin.
Rodriguez closed it to 4-2 with a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning.
In the seventh, the Sea Dogs began with four straight hits – Hazelbaker (triple), Shannon Wilkerson (RBI single), Linares (single) and Rodriguez’s RBI double to tie the game.
An RBI by Dan Butler, Derrik Gibson and Zach Gentile made it 7-4.
Hazelbaker’s third home run of the year then put Portland up 8-4 in the eighth.
Reliever Caleb Clay gave up a Deibinson Romero home run in the ninth, but then finished off New Britain.
The Sea Dogs complete their home stand today at 1 p.m., with Chris Hernandez (2-3) starting against the Rock Cats.
