TOPSHAM — Carroll G. “Sonny” Googins, age 72 of Topsham, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at his residence.

Sonny was born in Sebago, ME on October 20, 1939, a son of William and Mary Ross Googins. He attended local schools there and graduated from Potter Academy. He later attended and graduated from Gorham State Teachers College with a B.A. in Music Education. He lived in Topsham for 42 years coming from Sebago and was a music teacher at Brunswick High School from where he retired.

He was a member of the Presumpscot Lodge of Masons, A.F. & A.M. in Windham, a member of the Kora Shrine in Lewiston where he served as the Kora Shrine Chanters Director, and a member of the Lodge Council Chapter Consistory, Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Portland. He was also a member of Elijah Kellogg Church in Harpswell where he was choir director and played the piano and organ. He played piano at the Maine State Music Theatre for many years, and was also involved with shows at Portland Players, Portland Lyric Theater, and the Lewiston-Auburn Little

Theater.

Mr. Googins was a member of the Music Educators of America (MEA), and the American Coaster Enthusiast (ACE). He enjoyed traveling all over the country riding roller coasters with his life long partner, Ron Trell also of Topsham.

He is predeceased by his brother, Raymond Googins who died in 2006. Besides his partner, Sonny is survived by a niece, Teri Byrnes of Westbrook; and a nephew, Stephen Googins, and his wife Sheila of Toledo, OH.

Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick, where a Masonic ritualistic service will be held at 7 p.m.

A memorial service will be held at 11a.m. Thursday at Elijah Kellogg Church, 917 Harpswell Neck Road, Harpswell.
