STANDISH (AP) — Two teenage boys have been charged with arson and burglary in connection with a fire that destroyed a centuryold church in Standish.
The boys, ages 14 and 15, were apprehended at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday just hours after the blaze at the Richville Chapel left nothing but one wall standing. No one was hurt.
Police say the boys were identified by witnesses. Their names were not made public because of their age but authorities say one is from Standish and one is from Buxton.
The church was built in 1898.
The pastor says the building is insured.
Although Standish is near Gorham, where a series of fires have been set this spring, investigators do not think the teens were involved in the Gorham fires.
