A Monday morning fire that caused substantial smoke damage to a home on Brown’s Point Road remains under investigation by the Maine Fire Marshal’s Office.

The fire at 36 Brown’s Point Road was reported at about 9 a.m. Erik Johansen owns the home.

Bowdoinham Fire Chief Jack Tourtelotte said the kitchen table caught fire. Firefighters extinguished the blaze in about 15 minutes. He said fire damage was not extensive, but smoke filled the ranch-style home, rendering it unlivable for the time being.

Tourtelotte said a 15-yearold boy was home at the time the fire started and called his mother to tell her a fire had ignited in the kitchen. The mother dialed 911, and the boy got out of the house, Tourtelotte said. No one was injured.

Neighboring departments provided mutual aid. An investigator from the Fire Marshal’s Office arrived on scene, but as of 2 p.m. Monday, the cause of the fire remained under investigation, Tourtelotte said.
