BATH — Patten Free Library has introduced a new service called “Book a Librarian.”
“Library director Lesley Dolinger came up with the idea for the new service after noticing that more and more patrons were coming to the library seeking individualized instruction time with reference librarians,” a Patten Free Library release states. “They were coming in to get help with basic technology skills, but also to learn more about emerging technologies, such as eReaders.
“We have a reference staff person, Roberta Jordan, whose job description specifically includes library instruction,” Dolinger said in the release. “We found that many patrons sought out her assistance with eReaders after attending one of our presentations on downloading books. Working one-on-one with patrons was an effective way to help them learn and enjoy the new technology. So it seems logical to extend the idea of personalized instruction and assistance in other areas, whether it’s word-processing and other basic computer skills, building a résumé, applying for a job, or library research.”
