BATH
Following a traffic incident reported Sunday, the Bath Police Department reminds citizens who witness traffic violations to report them to police, but not to get further involved.
Bath Police Lt. Stan Cielinski said a driver from Phippsburg called police at 10 a.m. Sunday to report that the driver of a car ignored two stop signs on Bluff Road. The caller allegedly followed the offending driver from West Bath and ultimately argued with the driver. The two allegedly engaged in a verbal confrontation that did not become physical.
“This is definitely what we don’t want people to do,” Cielinski said. Police want people to be good witnesses and call to report a traffic offense; but not to confront the offenders, Cielinski said.
An officer tracked down the alleged offending motorist, who denied driving through stop signs and said a guy just pulled up and started screaming at him.
The conduct of the complainant took him from being a witness of a traffic offense to someone involved in a confrontation, Cielinski said.
