BRUNSWICK — Seaspray Kayaking is scheduled to sponsor two kayak fishing events for 2012.

A “Kids Only” Kayak Fishing Tournament has been added.

A free “Kids Hooked on Fishing” Kayak Fishing Tournament is scheduled to be held July 7 at Center Pond in Phippsburg from 8 a.m. until noon.

On July 8, the Maine Kayak Fishing Tournament will take place on the Androscoggin River from 4 a.m. until 4 p.m.

“I am extremely excited about combining the youth, our future kayak anglers, with the present kayak anglers, into one full weekend of fishing,” said tournament director Scott Shea. “We’ve made a few changes, most notably focusing the location of the Maine Kayak Fishing Tournament on one of the best fisheries in Mid-Coast Maine — the Androscoggin River.”

Over the past six years, participants fished the Sheepscot, Kennebec, New Meadows and Androscoggin rivers for striped bass, but this year all the action will be brought to one location in an attempt to catch striped bass, pike and smallmouth bass. All fish will be digitally photographed and released.

Awards include an Angler Kayak, lots of gear, local certificates, including lobster dinners, and a special prize for the largest fish caught out of a Wilderness Systems Kayak.

The awards ceremony will take place on the deck of the Sea Dog Restaurant in Topsham at 4 p.m. on July 8. All proceeds benefit the Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife “Hooked on Fishing” program.

Seaspray Kayaking will have rental kayaks and canoes available with prior reservations.
