PORTLAND — Lanyard Theatre Company will present “Whale Watch,” an original short by Linda Giuliano, as part of the first PortFringe 2012 theater festival on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Saturday, June 30, at 6 p.m.

A release about the play describes it as “an understated look at the absurdity of life, love, and the challenges of being half-human, halfwhale.”

The cast includes former Topsham resident Christopher Reiling and Bath native Elizabeth Lardie. Lardie’s fellow Lanyard co-artistic director, Joseph Barbarino, directs.

Performances of “Whale Watch” will be part of a “triple ticket” also featuring performances by the American Irish Repertory Ensemble and Cauldron and Labrys Productions.

PortFringe, a new event celebrating the off-beat, original and envelope-pushing, runs from Wednesday to July 1 and is presented by the Portland Theatre Collaborative.
