BRUNSWICK
Brunswick police handled two different vehicle crashes this weekend that resulted in operating under the influence charges.
The first was reported at approximately 10 p.m. Saturday. Brunswick police and Brunswick Fire and Rescue crews responded to a singlevehicle crash in the area of Botany Place.
According to a press release, Samuel Prindall, 22, of Harpswell, was driving a 2006 Honda Accord south on Barrows Drive. He entered a dead-end portion of the road, crashed into a small wooded area and came to a rest after striking rock wall located at the rear of a residence on Larkspur Lane.
Following the crash, Prindall was transported to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. Police later charged him with operating under the influence, the release states. The vehicle sustained extensive damage.
About three hours later, at 1:08 a.m. Sunday, Brunswick Police Officer Ed Yurek discovered a single-vehicle crash on Route 1. A press release states that Chantel Merrick, 28, of Bath, was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Passat north on Route 1, lost control and struck the cable barrier, coming to rest facing south in the north lane.
As a result of the crash, Merrick was charged with operating under the influence. In the release, police characterized damage to the Volkswagen as extensive.
