CHICAGO — Gatorade has announced Madison High School’s Matthew McClintock is its 2011/12 Gatorade Maine Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year.
McClintock is a finalist for Gatorade’s national award.
The 5-foot-10 senior won the 1,600-meter run in a state Class C record time of 4:16.40 in the State Championships at Cony High School in Augusta earlier this month. He also captured the 3,200 run, setting a second mark in 9:16.92. He went on to win the New England Interscholastic Outdoor title, finishing in 9:06.24 in the 3,200.
Also a cross country standout, McClintock has maintained an A average in the classroom, earning valedictorian honors. He plans on attending Purdue University in the fall.
