TOPSHAM — Elizabeth Drucker, former owner and director of The Ballet School in Topsham, is returning to the Mid-coast region after a four-year absence.

Drucker plans to reopen her ballet school, offering beginner through advanced classical ballet instruction for all ages.

Drucker ran The Ballet School from 1999 through 2008, providing nine different levels of ballet technique to more than 150 students in the large, light-filled studio on Middlesex Road.

In addition, under her direction, the school produced annual full-scale ballet performances at the Orion Performing Arts Center.

Drucker sold the school in 2008, allowing her to move with her husband to Oneonta, N.Y., to care for her aging mother.

The business remained open for three years under different ownership, but was forced to close its doors last spring.

After her mother’s death in 2011, Drucker and her husband again bought the school and moved back to Maine. To differentiate a new chapter in the school’s history, it has been renamed Elizabeth Drucker’s Ballet School.

A former dancer with the New York City Ballet, Drucker has been teaching in Maine and New York for 19 years. She studied at the School of American Ballet in New York City, and says her own training heavily influences her teaching style.

“I had a group of amazing teachers who made every single class feel important and rewarding,” she said in a release about the school’s reopening. “I try to bring the same energy and integrity to my own classes.”

Drucker said she strives to create a “safe, supportive and inspiring atmosphere in which her students can discover and explore their own potential,” the release states.

The school’s 2012-13 season will begin with a summer session from July 10 to Aug. 16, and a fall program beginning on Sept. 10.

The school offers instruction for students 3 years old to adult; Drucker will teach all ages and levels.

Elizabeth Drucker’s Ballet School is located at 799 Middlesex Road, Topsham. For more information, visit www.theballetschool.com or call 729-6794.
