To the editor:

In light of Rep. Alex Cornell du Houx’s recent decision to resign his candidacy for Maine House District 66 representative, the Brunswick Democratic Town Committee is taking steps to ensure that the voters of House District 66 have a Democratic candidate on the November ballot.

By law, the Brunswick Democratic Town Committee must hold a special meeting to select a replacement Democratic candidate for the November ballot. Before we may do so, the secretary of state must first declare the vacancy, after which we must hold our meeting to select a new candidate prior to July 23.

We will hold this meeting as soon as possible upon receipt of the formal vacancy notification from the secretary of state. The date, place, and time of our meeting will be made public through notification to the newspapers and Brunswick TV3.

We would like to encourage any registered Democrat in House District 66 to contact us if they want information about running, or already know that they want to be considered as a candidate. Anyone who is interested will have an opportunity to be selected as the next Democratic candidate.

This selection will be made in accordance with the fair and open process laid out in statute and our bylaws. Everyone who has an interest in running is strongly encouraged to let us know and/or contact us with questions. Please contact us at [email protected] or call 518-8369.
