The Maine Dirtdogs, an AAU baseball team at the 14-and-under level with players from Saco, Sanford, Bangor and Augusta, won the Dan Duquette Tournament Championship in Hinsdale, Mass., with a 7-1 victory over the Maine Lightning, representing Portland. Both teams were 5-0 in pool play.

The YES! fifth-grade girls’ basketball team won the Division 2 Classic Bracket at the AAU national championships held June 24-29 in Franklin, Tenn. The Maine squad beat teams from Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia to reach the final, then rolled to a 48-21 win over ESC Elite of Elkhart, Ind., in the championship game.

The Downeast Lacrosse team won the XTreme Lax Boys Varsity A championship for the second year in a row, beating Mass Elite 7-4 in the championship game July 1 at Groton, Mass.

Team members are Christian Neelon, Josh Cyr, Svenn Jacobson, Steve Patrie, Brett Levasseur, Jack Sutton, Jake Desrochers, Corbin Cass, Austin Doody, Jimmy Talbott, Cody O’Brien, Clayton Spang, Tyler Jordan, Brendan Smith, Peter Dyche, Ben Bath, Andrew Farrington, Matt Murphy, Brad Gilbert, Patrick Rimmer, Brendan Haley, Nick Bath, David Criscione and Charlie Fay.

The coaches are Tobey Farrington and Tom Talbott.

Tony Sacco of Portland recorded his first hole-in-one at Sable Oaks on June 11. Sacco used a gap wedge to make the 138-yard shot on the eighth hole. James Paige and Stephan Stelmach witnessed the shot.

Randy Smith aced the 10th hole at Biddeford-Saco Country Club on July 2. Smith used an 8-iron for the shot, which was witnessed by Mike Knowles, Dave Ordway and Walt Smith.

Bob Guerette used a 1-iron to record a hole-in-one on the second hole at Biddeford-Saco Country Club on July 2. Tom Melanson witnessed the shot.

Jacob Jones, 12, of Chestertown, Md., aced the 13th hole at Spring Meadows Golf Club on July 4. Jones used an 8-iron for the 101-yard shot, which was witnessed by Scott Jones, George Jones and Dan MacDuffie.

Dale McElhaney used a 3-hybrid to score his first hole-in-one Thursday on the 183-yard fourth hole at Brunswick Golf Club. Witnesses were Don Thiboutot, Jim Merritt and Bill Dodge.

Scott Seaver aced the sixth hole at Toddy Brook Golf Course on Friday. Seaver used a 5-wood for the 184-yard shot, which was witnessed by Brady Austin, Jason Bragdon and Barb Seaver.

Robert Zarse of Elon, N.C., aced the second hole at Nonesuch River Golf Club on Sunday. Zarse used an 8-iron for the 120-yard shot, which was witnessed by Larry Martin.
