Jazz show benefits boosters

Bull Moose will host Maine-based jazz band Standard Issue in the store’s Scarborough location, 456 Payne Road, on Sunday, July 15 at 11 a.m. The band is celebrating the July 10 release of Classic Jazz from the Great American Songbook, which was recorded live earlier this summer at Gingko Blue in Portland. The in-store performance is free and open to the public.

One dollar from the purchase of every CD will go to the South Portland Music Boosters, a not-for-profit organization that promotes music programs in grades 4-12 in the South Portland public schools. Bull Moose has offered to match the donation for any purchases of Standard Issue’s CD made at Bull Moose. The CD will retail for $6.97 at Bull Moose.

Standard Issue is Colleen Clark, vocals, Emmett Harrity on piano, Nick Merriam, acoustic bass, and Rob Schreiber, drums.

Fresh Art Show and Sale in Cape

The 14th annual Fresh Art Show and Sale will take place in Cape Elizabeth at the end of the month.

The event opens Friday, July 27, 6-8 p.m., and continues Saturday, July 28, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday, July 29, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Local artists gather to sell and show their work of photography, fiber, ceramics, metals, wood and more.

The event is held at Sprague Hall, #1 Charles E. Jordan Road, in Cape Elizabeth, located one mile south of Crescent Beach at Route 77 and Fouler Road. For more information, call 318-1049 or email silversund@yahoo.com.

Summer fair at church

The Blue Point Congregational Church UCC Summer Fair, at 236 Pine Point Road, Scarborough, will be held Saturday, July 28, 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.

Ten Maine crafters will be on display along with baked goods and a luncheon from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. of either hot dog or hamburger, and strawberry shortcakes.

Proceeds will benefit the church’s mission projects.

Historical society seeks sale items

The Scarborough Historical Society will hold its annual fair Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, and the organization is looking for gently used books, household items, clothes, or anything else that would sell well. Items may be dropped off at the Scarborough Historical Museum on Tuesday morning, 9 a.m.-noon, or for other arrangements, call 885-9997.

The society relies on the proceeds from the fair to operate the museum through out the whole year.

Cape Garden Tour July 14

The Arboretum at Fort Williams will present another edition of the Maine Home + Design Cape Elizabeth Garden Tour, to be held Saturday, July 14. It is a self-guided tour of some of Cape Elizabeth’s private gardens.

The Maine Home + Design Cape Elizabeth Garden Tour is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. This tour benefits The Arboretum at Fort Williams Park, a project of the nonprofit Fort Williams Charitable Foundation. The funds generated will be used to create a series of garden landscapes within Fort Williams Park for the public to enjoy. The installation of the first Arboretum landscape, The Cliffside Site, is under way and is the first stop on the tour.

As an added bonus, people who attend the tour on their bicycles will have access to early registration, at 9:30 a.m. instead of 10 a.m., and there will be designated bike parking areas near the entrances to each garden.
