BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Cory Mazzoni returned from the Eastern League disabled list and Frank Francisco continued to work his way back toward the Major Leagues while combining on a five-hitter that carried the Binghamton Mets to a 2-1 win over the Portland Sea Dogs in the first game of Friday’s doubleheader.

Mazzoni (4-3) had been out with a thumb laceration. He worked six innings, giving up four hits and two walks while striking out five.

Francisco went on the New York Mets disabled list with a strained left oblique June 23. In his second injury rehabilitation appearance, he allowed a lead-off double by Ronald Bermudez before retiring three straight for a save.

Francisco was 1-3 with 18 saves in 31 appearances with New York.
