South Bristol artist Sally Loughridge returns to show new paintings in August at Archipelago, the Island Institute store at 386 Main St., Rockland.

Her oil and soft pastel paintings reflect a continual fascination and visual conversation with the natural elements of Maine’s midcoast. She is drawn to dramatic contrasts of light and shadow or transitory shifts in weather.

“Painting helps me connect with the natural world, to see it more clearly and appreciate it more deeply,” she said in a statement. “In turn, I hope my work will stir the viewer’s curiosity, memory and emotions.”

Loughridge has exhibited at Archipelago for 11 years. In 2010, her work was part of “Monhegan Perspectives III,” a group show by the Monhegan Six painters.
