BAILEY ISLAND — Marion Isobel Munsey Fuller, 89, died peacefully on July 26 at Coastal Manor in Yarmouth where she had resided for the past 1 1/2 years. She was born on May 10, 1923, the daughter of Bill and Hannah Black Munsey of Bailey Island. She grew up on Bailey Island, attended grade school in a one room schoolhouse, and graduated from North Yarmouth Academy. She went on to Maine Eye and Ear to pursue a diploma in Nursing and spent her nursing career at Maine Eye & Ear and Maine Medical Center retiring as a Nursing Director. She also was a private duty nurse. She was an artist and enjoyed sharing her paintings with family and friends.

Marion married Gene Hays in March of 1945 and they made their home with their two children in Cape Elizabeth and Cumberland. In 1969 Marion married Dick Fuller and lived in Cape Elizabeth and Cumberland. Marion summered on Bailey Island in her parent’s home in Mackerel Cove. After Dick Fuller’s death in 2006, Marion moved back to her beloved Bailey Island.

Marion was an active member of the Willing Helpers Incorporated, a non-profit group that preserves and maintains the Bailey Island Union Church and Cemetery. She, Dick and a group from her church drove a school bus from Cape Elizabeth to Guatemala as part of Heifer International, a global nonprofit with the goal of ending poverty and hunger in a sustainable fashion.

Marion was predeceased by her parents and her infant sister, Myrtle. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Gene Fischer (Bill) of Cumberland, her son James Munsey Hays (Gayle) of Bailey Island, stepdaughter Meredith Fuller Young (Craig) of Gorham, stepsons John Drew Fuller (Cory Walker) of Duluth, MN and Don Fuller (Kim) of Peru, ME, granddaughters Becky Fischer and Elizabeth Tarantino of Cumberland, grandsons Kevin Hays of Brunswick and Justin Hays (Brandi) of Bailey Island, step granddaughters Maria Palmer of MA and Addie Fuller of Peru, 9 great grandchildren, a great, great granddaughter, sisters-in law Rena DeGrandis, Linda McGowen, Dot Taylor, and Jose Hays, and daughter-inlaw Petra Bergman.

Marion will be remembered for her loving and caring manner, brilliant blue eyes, kind heart, generous soul, and her ability to say ‘Thank You’ for the very simple things that people did for her. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the wonderful caregivers on Bailey Island and at Coastal Manor in Yarmouth.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Greater Grace Bible Church (Gorham), Willing Helpers Incorporated (Bailey Island), or Orrs & Bailey Island Fire Department.

A celebration of Marion’s life will be held at Mackerel Cove, Bailey Island on Tuesday July 31 at 1pm with Pastor Bob White officiating. A gathering at Bailey Island Library Hall will follow the services. A graveside burial on Bailey Island will be held at a later date.
