FREEPORT — Margaret “Peggy” E. Lapham, age 92, formerly of Brunswick, died Sunday, August 5th at Freeport Nursing Home. She was born on August 4, 1920 in Claremont, NH, the daughter of Fred and Lillian Carleton Slate.

Peggy was educated in the Townson, VT schools and attended Leland and Gray Seminary in 1938. She came to Maine in 1938 and married Harold P. Lapham on June 14, 1940. She began working as an LPN in Brunswick Community Hospital in 1952 and retired in 1977 after 25 years of service.

Peggy is survived by her son James Lapham and his wife Sandra of Freeport, 3 daughters Elizabeth Scott and her husband John of Richmond, TX. Elaine Reed and her husband William of Chester, NJ, and Kathleen Sheffield and her husband Frank of Concord, NH. She is also survived by a brother, Arthur Slate of Brattleboro, VT, foster sister Marlene Martin and her husband Russell of Topsham, 7 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by husband Harold on October 2, 2009, her brothers Fred, Herbert, Frank, Richard and Charles Slate.

A graveside service was held on Tuesday, August 7th at 10AM at Varney Cemetery in Brunswick, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband. Visiting hours will be private. Donations in her memory may be made to the First Freewill Baptist Church, 386 Church Road, Brunswick, ME 04011.
