BRUNSWICK — The Cumberland County Registry of Deeds office is scheduled to move two blocks from its current location later this month.
The office, currently at 142 Federal St. in Portland, will relocate to 25 Pearl St. starting on Aug. 20. The move is scheduled to take place during the weekend of Aug. 16.
According to a press release, the move is a result of the county’s 2006 and 2010 strategic planning process, which identified a need for additional space for the Registry of Deeds.
The move will also allow the county’s finance and information technology departments to move from offices at the jail on St. John Street into the courthouse.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
