BIDDEFORD — Biddeford authorities identified the man whose body was found in the Saco River on Thursday night as Darrell L. Hoerl, 39, of Cutts Street in Biddeford.

Police are still waiting for the state medical examiner to determine the cause of death.

Rescue workers were called to the area of the “Black Bridge” railroad trestle at 8:38 p.m. after two men who had been fishing either jumped or fell into the river, police said this morning.

One of the people swam to shore but the other, Hoerl, did not surface.

A Maine State Police diver found the submerged body at 11:30 p.m., Biddeford police said.

Biddeford police continue to investigate the incident.
