DAVIE, Fla. – Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chad Johnson was arrested Saturday night for domestic violence, according to numerous website reports.

Johnson’s wife, Evelyn Lozada, was treated for a laceration on her forehead, allegedly caused by a head-butt. Johnson and Lozada were married on July 4.

PANTHERS: Carolina reached a five-year contract extension with running back Jonathan Stewart.

Financial terms weren’t immediately available. ESPN, citing sources, reported the deal includes $22.5 million in guaranteed money and is worth $36.5 million overall.

FALCONS: Coach Mike Smith said starting middle linebacker Akeem Dent sustained a concussion Thursday in a 31-17 loss to Baltimore and will miss next week’s exhibition against Cincinnati.

Rookie fullback Bradie Ewing, a fifth-round pick from Wisconsin, is out for the season after injuring his right knee in Thursday’s game.

COWBOYS: David Arkin had never snapped the ball for Dallas before getting to training camp two weeks ago.

When the Cowboys play their preseason opener Monday at Oakland, there is a distinct possibility Arkin could be snapping for quarterback Tony Romo.
