FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Veteran receiver Plaxico Burress had a workout with the New England Patriots, according to a person with knowledge of the tryout.

Burress, who turned 35 on Sunday, had 45 catches for 612 yards and eight touchdowns last season with the Jets.

Burress caught the winning touchdown pass in the 2008 Super Bowl for the Giants against the Patriots.

DOLPHINS: Miami terminated Chad Johnson’s contract, about 24 hours after the wide receiver was arrested in a domestic battery case involving his wife.

Johnson was released from jail on $2,500 bond earlier Sunday after his wife accused him of head-butting her during an argument in front of their home. Johnson was charged with simple domestic battery, a misdemeanor.

VIKINGS: Minnesota activated running back Adrian Peterson from the physically unable to perform list. Peterson had major knee surgery on Dec. 31.

PACKERS: In need of another running back, Green Bay signed veteran Cedric Benson.

JAGUARS: Jacksonville released wide receiver Lee Evans, placed former Patriots receiver Taylor Price on injured reserve with a foot injury, and signed receiver Demetrius Williams and guard/center Josh Beekman.

BROWNS: Wide receivers Mohamed Massaquoi and Travis Benjamin, linebacker Scott Fujita, cornerback Dimitri Patterson, tight end Jordan Camero, and defensive tackle Scott Paxson did not practice Sunday because of injuries suffered during Cleveland’s 19-17 victory Friday over Detroit.
