AUGUSTA (AP) — Proposed rule changes to Maine’s medical marijuana program drew a crowd to a public hearing, where many said the changes were too restrictive.
Maine Public Broadcasting Network reports that about 100 people filled the room for the legislative hearing, with dozens in two overflow rooms.
Corey Belcher of Bristol, who uses marijuana for back pain, says he has been growing his own because the dispensary prices are too high.
Rep. Deborah Sanderson, a Chelsea Republican, wants the requirement for an eightfoot tall fence to be installed around plants grown outside to be eliminated. She says standard fencing is six-feethigh and adding two feet will increase the cost significantly.
The public may submit written comments on the proposed changes to the Division of Licensing and Regulatory Services until Aug. 23.
