The Brunswick Parks and Recreation Department took eighth overall in the Maine Junior Olympics Track and Field State Championship meet, which was held Sunday in Brewer.

Also, the Lisbon Striders picked up seven first places and 59 points and Woolwich gathered 49 points.

York won with 317 points, followed by Auburn 300.7, Panther Track 246, Falmouth 191, Scarborough 179.7, Red Riot 157, Windham 156, Brunswick Recreation 154, Old Town 152.5, Saco Bay Striders 147.5, Winslow 128.7, Central Track Club 126.5, Waterville 120, Bangor 101.7, Kennebunk 87.33, Lincoln 78.33, Oxford Hills 77.5, Augusta Rec. 73, Portland Rec. 68, Lisbon Striders 59, Winthrop Rec. 58, Sandy River Track 55, Brewer Rec. 55, Woolwich 49, Pittsfield 42, Hampden 40.33, Lakers Track 37, Lewiston 33, Westbrook 30, Skowhegan 30, Blue Hill 28, Gorham 22, Cumberland/ North Yarmouth 20, Team Nowhere 5.

 
 
Approximately 900 athletes competed in four age groups: Mites (8-and-under), Bantams (9-10), Midgets (11-12) and Youth (13-14). Scoring was tabulated through six places.

Among the Brunswick highlights and scorers, the Brunswick Midget girls 4 x 400 relay team of Colette Kinkade, Charlotte MacMillan, Anna Rider and Desiree Tanner clinched first in 5:02.2, while the Mite mixed 4 x 100 team of Ryan Kinkade, Patrick Crimmins, Abby Sharpe and Kelsey Carlton placed first in 1:23.69. Also, theMidgetboys4x400relay of Zachary Boyle, Nolan Doherty, Cameron Ashby and Adam Benoit placed first in 5:13.57.

The Brunswick Youth girls 4 x 400 relay was second in 4:46.33 and the Bantam mixed 4 x 100 relay was sixth (1:24.52).

Individually for the Brunswick boys, Shea Farrell was third in Mite boys long jump (8-10), Shane Lyons second in Youth long jump (16- 07), second in triple jump (35- 11.25), second in the 400 (59.68) and fourth in the 200 (27.45), Daniel Lyons second in Midget 3,000-meter run (11:49.55), fourth in the 1,500 (5:38.92) and fifth in the 800 (2:50.52), Doherty fourth in Midget 3,000 (12:11.47), Carlyle Boyle sixth in Youth 3,000 (11:46.71), Seth White sixth in the Youth 100-meter hurdles (18.97) and Jason Higginbotham second in the Intermediate 1,500 (4:57.52) and second in the 800 (2:29.86).

Also for the Brunswick girls, Tiffany Tanner won the Youth 3,000 run in 11:21.48 and captured the 1,500 (5:19.03), while Desiree Tanner was third in Midget 3,000 (12:38.58) and third in the 1,500 (5:56.48), Lily Hood sixth in the Youth 100-meter hurdles (19.88), Micaela Ashby fourth in the Bantam 1,500 (6:23.88), Caitlin Kelly sixth in the Bantam 1,500 (6:30.88), Colette Kinkade second in the Midget 1,500 (5;43.83) and second in the 800 (2:46.10), Lena Martin fourth in Youth 400 (1:07.43), Kelsie Carlton fifth in the Mite 800 (3:35.82) and Anna Rider sixth in the Midget 800 (3:03.16).

For the Lisbon boys, Nicholas Harriman won the Intermediate high jump with a height of 5-00, captured the javelin with a heave of 94-10, was first in the 1,500 (4:56.05) and won the 800 (2:28.95), while Bradley Harriman won the Midget 80-meter hurdles in 14.66, captured the 100- meter dash (13.86) and was second in the shot put (36- 11.75). Also, Ethan Brown was sixth in the Mite boys shot put (18-08.50) and sixth in Mite boys long jump (8-00.75), Morgan Perron fourth in the Midget javelin (92-04), Caleb Phillips second in the Mite javelin (58-01), Josiah Kenney sixth in Midget 3,000 (12:24.08) andtheMite4x100relay team was first in 1:11.54.

For the Lisbon girls, Sarah Moore sixth in Mite girls long jump (8-00.25) and Valerie Doucette third in Midget high jump (4-02),

In the Woolwich girls effort, Josie Harrington won the Mite high jump at 3-04, while Sara Graves competed in the Midget girls and was second in the shot put (26-11.75) and third in the discus (53-11).

For Woolwich boys, John Hall captured the Bantam 1,500 run in 5:54.19, while Evan Parsons placed fifth in Youth boys discus (92-02) and fourth in the javelin (122-07) and Tucker Banger sixth in Youth 800 (2:38.74).

Also, the Bantam mixed 4 x 100 relay team took fifth in 1:22.83.
