BIDDEFORD — The fifth annual Mainiac Sprint Triathlon & Duathlon is scheduled to take place on Sept. 9 at Gil Bouncher Park.
The event begins at 9 a.m.
The course is perfectly suited for the first-timer or seasoned competitor looking for a personal best. The race will begin with a quarter-mile swim in the calm and smooth waters of Fletchers Neck, followed by a 14.85-mile flat bike course along the Mile Stretch of Biddeford Pool, traveling along Route 9, inland on Oak Ridge Road to Goose Rocks Road and the Gooserocks Beach community in Kennebunkport, returning along the beach fronts of Goose Rocks Beach and Fortunes Rocks.
The 3.1 mile run will take competitors around the headland of Fletchers Neck with Saco Bay, Wood Island Light, the “Gut” and the Pool at their side as they return to the Bath House Beach transition/ finish area.
The Mainiac Duathlon will start with an out-and-back, two-mile beach run on packed sand.
