VASSALBORO — Freeport native Jack Wyman has advanced to today’s semifinal of the 2012 Match Play Championship at Natanis Golf Club.
Wyman, the No. 17 seed, was scheduled to tee off against third-seeded Johnny Hayes IV early this morning, while in the other semifinal, No. 4 Joe Walp was to take on No. 25 Curtis Jordan.
Wyman opened tournament play on Wednesday against 15th-seeded Ryan Gay. In a match that went 19 holes, Wyman came out on top. On Thursday, Wyman dispatched No. 31 Sean Gaddigan, 3-and- 2, before defeating seventhseeded Jason Gall, 4-and-2 on Thursday to move to today’s semifinal.
The winners of the semifinals come right back today on the Tomahawk course for the championship match.
Jordan Jones of Wiscasset picked up a first-round victory on Wednesday over No. 13 Keith Patterson, 1-up. But, the 20th-seeded Jones dropped a 5-and-4 decision to Walp in the round of 16 on Thursday.
Also, Topsham’s Mike Doran (No. 17) fell in the opening round in 24 holes to Joseph Alvarez (No. 16).
