SCARBOROUGH (AP) — An ice cream flavor created in honor of L.L. Bean’s 100th anniversary is going on sale in retail stores.
Gov. Paul LePage and other dignitaries are encouraged to wear their Bean boots to celebrate the Giffords ice cream flavor, “Muddy Bean Boots.”
The retail launch is being celebrated today at a Hannaford supermarket in Scarborough. Previously, it was sold only at Gifford’s ice cream stands.
For its 100th, L.L. Bean teamed up with Skowheganbased Gifford’s and other companies for special edition products, like canoes, paddles and bamboo fly rides, as well as ice cream.
Muddy Bean Boots was named for Bean’s iconic hunting shoe. Gifford’s says it features vanilla ice cream, sweet caramel ripples and small brownies bites.
