VASSALBORO — Johnny Hayes IV captured the 2012 Match Play Championship on the Tomahawk course at Natanis Golf Club, defeating Curt Jordan, 6-and-4, in the final on Friday.

Hayes shot a 6-under-par, 30 on the front nine to go 6-up and cruised from there.

In the morning semifinals on Friday, Hayes battled Freeport’s Jack Wyman, coming away with a 1-up victory.

All square coming to the 18th hole, Hayes hit his tee shot into the trees left of the fairway, while Wyman found the middle of the fairway.

Hayes chipped out and was still away, but his approach shot settled within four feet of the pin to set up a par putt.

Meanwhile, Wyman’s approach landed short of the flag and spun off the green and into the water hazard fronting the green.

Playing from the hazard, Wyman’s chip ran to the back of the green, and his long putt missed. Wyman conceded the hole, giving Hayes the victory.

In the other semifinal, Jordan jumped out to a 5-up lead through 11 holes and won 1- up over Joe Walp.
