A week after getting a little funding help from former Gov. John Baldacci, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Cynthia Dill has picked up two endorsements from labor groups.
Dill announced the endorsements of the Maine State Employees Association SEIU Local 1989 and the Maine State Nurses Association.
“I am thrilled to receive these endorsements,” Dill said in a release. “Getting the support of these two groups is meaningful and important. They exemplify the values of hard-working Mainers, and of my campaign."
The MSEA represents over 15,000 state workers.
MSEA President Ginette Rivard praised Dill’s support for state workers, saying, “Cynthia Dill has stood with Maine State Employees in our tough fights, and we are standing with her in this tough fight.”
It may have helped Dill that independent Angus King had a tense relationship with both labor groups. King in 1996 was on the receiving end of some pointed criticism from the MSEA after balking at a collective bargaining agreement that would have given state employees a pay raise. King also irked the Maine State Nurses Association when he vetoed a bill that would have allowed nurses to refuse to work overtime.
