BOSTON – Boston Red Sox Manager Bobby Valentine said the team will meet with David Ortiz on Monday to decide whether the designated hitter needs another trip to the disabled list, one that could end his season.

Ortiz said after sitting out the 8-6 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday that he had no update. He missed 35 games with a sore right Achilles tendon before returning Friday, going 2 for 4 with a double and aggravating the injury.

“It’s likely that if he doesn’t have a miraculous recovery tonight, we’ll have a DL situation tomorrow,” Valentine said, declining to say whether a move to the disabled list at this point in the year would be season-ending. “I know David wants to be with the team and he wants to do what he’s done all year, and that’s to be a major contributor.”

Ortiz said before Sunday’s game that he is unable to concentrate on batting because he is worried about his leg.

“Instead of just seeing the ball and hitting the ball, I’m thinking about how my foot is going to react once I take off running,” Ortiz told reporters.

THE RED SOX optioned outfielder Che-Hsuan Lin to Triple-A Pawtucket and recalled right-handed pitcher Pedro Beato from Pawtucket.

Lin, 23, was recalled Saturday for his third stint with the Red Sox this season.

Beato was acquired from the Mets on Aug. 16, completing the trade for catcher Kelly Shoppach.
