BATH — Patten Free Library’s Children’s Room will be hosting a series of four free writer’s workshops on Thursday afternoons beginning Sept. 6 from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
A news release describes the workshops as follows:
Using the library’s iPads and an application called Scribble Press, participants will learn how to create and publish their own stories online.
“Scribble Press is a wonderful, free app that we have put on our six iPads. It allows students to write and illustrate their own stories, either from scratch or using templates,” Roberta Jordan, an outreach and instruction librarian, said in a news release.
The workshops will help participants focus on writing illustrated memoirs. Workshop leaders will help children brainstorm ideas for stories based on their own personal histories, using the work of children’s authors like Patricia Polacco and Barbara Cooney as examples. Participants can then create quick story boards and bring them to life using the iPads and the tools in Scribble Press.
Enrollment for each session is limited to six participants and the targeted age group for the program is 8 to 12 year olds. In order to finish a book, participants will need to sign up for at least two sessions.
