WATERVILLE — Sophomore Kelly Burrell scored her second goal of the match 6:13 into the first sudden-death overtime period to give the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies a 3-2 victory over the Thomas College Terriers in a non-conference women’s soccer match Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The win evens the Huskies’ record at 1-1. The Terriers slipped to 0-2.
Junior Kate Thibodeau of Woolwich had 11 saves for Thomas in 82:13, while freshman Lindsy Hoopingarner of Richmond did not register a save in her 14 minutes of action.
Southern Maine had a 27-9 advantage in shots and a 7-1 margin in corner kicks.
Also on the USM squad are freshman midfielder Brooke Lawrence of Lisbon Falls and sophomore back Mariah Cropley of Topsham.
The Huskies are scheduled to host Bowdoin College in their home opener today (4:30 p.m.) at Hannaford Field, while the Terriers travel to St. Joseph’s College today (4:30 p.m.).
