PORTLAND — Portland’s Back Cove will be the scene of the second annual Kids’ Maine Marathon Mile on Sept. 29, beginning at 10 a.m.
The event will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine and is part of the Maine Marathon, which takes place the following day.
To participate, athletes must be 7-12 years of age on the day of the race.
Medals will be awarded to all finishers and trophies will be given to the top three boys and the top three girls. Official Kids’ Maine Marathon Mile T-shirts and bags will be given to the first 300 athletes who register for the race.
Race registration can be completed online at www.KidsMeMarathonMile.c om, or in person on the day of the race. Registration will be from 8 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. at the Maine Marathon start line, near the Hannaford entrance on Bedford Street.
Preregistation costs $10 (if postmarked to the BBBS by Sept. 24), $12 on the day of the race.
Also, a Fun Run will take place for children ages 4-6, beginning at 9:45 a.m. The race is a 120-yard run, with medals awarded to all participants.
