FREEPORT — September is when hunters all over New England begin preparing for the upcoming season by stocking up on gear, planning strategies and scoping out their spots.

The L.L.Bean Hunting Expo is scheduled for Sept. 21- 23 and will include interactive highlights, including free outdoor archery and a special program just for children — the Kids’ Outdoor Discovery Schools Sporting Challenge where kids can try and make a long-distance sporting-clay shot, hit the bull’s eye at the archery range and cast a fly at a small target for great prizes.

L.L. Bean’s Outdoor Discovery School will be offering free fly-casting, archery and clay shooting all weekend, in addition to many other hands-on and interactive activities for the whole family.

There will also be a free indoor archery competition, with the prize being L.L. Bean’s 100th Anniversary Collector’s Knife with Display Box valued at $750.

In addition, folks can try out a variety of shotguns before making a purchase at our shotgun range. On the 22nd, Bean’s will be offering a free game cookout from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Guest speakers include nationally known hunting experts Hal Blood, Bob Humphrey and Mossy Oak National Pro Staff member, Matt Morrett, plus seminars by the Maine Professional Guides Association, The Rabid Outdoorsman, Steve Vose, L.L. Bean staff and others. Lee Kantar, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife moose biologist will be giving a special talk on the status of Maine’s moose population.

Special promotions, which start on the 21st and run through the weekend, include 20 percent off all hunting apparel and footwear, 60 percent off on certain closeout items, 15 percent off on game cameras and select knives, plus additional discounts on several other items.
