AUGUSTA — Brunswick High School boys soccer broke out of a three-game scoring funk, scoring a season-high 12 goals in a 12-1 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win over Cony on Friday.

Konnor Scarponi had five goals and two assists, while Greg Walton and Adam Finick chipped in with two goals each, and Cullen Shea, Devin Schinofen and Blake Gordon a goal each. Ryan Black had two assists.

Ricardo Cavadini had an unassisted goal for Cony.

Walton and Ryan Brescia combined for three saves for the visiting Dragons, who are 3-2-1 and scheduled to visit Brewer on Tuesday.

Brandon Elwell of Cony came away with five saves.

Hyde boys varsity soccer opened its regular season on the road Friday against Putnam Science Academy.

Ethan Morrow scored two goals, and Harpswell’s Keifer Cundy was a midfield standout.

Hyde boys varsity soccer played its second game in as many days Saturday morning at Marianapolis Prep in Connecticut.

Despite a first half lead of 1-0 on a goal from Cundy (assisted by Eduardo Gadsden), the injury-plagued Phoenix (1-1) failed to hold off the second-half rally from the host team.

JD Souza scored four goals as the host Wolverines improved to 3-2-1 and entertains St. Dom’s on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Mason Whitaker, Logan Grover and Dale Peaslee each chipped in a goal for the victors, with goaltender Nate Mills turning aside 11 shots.

Eddie Stewart tallied a pair of goals three minutes apart to begin the second half as the 4-1 Bobcats shook off a long bus ride in an East- West Conference win on Friday at Rangeley.

“We always have some trouble getting started after the bus ride, but we bounced back from our first loss (3-1 to Greenville on Tuesday) and played well,” said Richmond coach Joe Scribellito, whose Bobcats host Vinalhaven on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.

Sam Lorbeski, off an assist from Brett Stillwell, staked Richmond to a 1-0 halftime lead, and Stewart’s goals in the first eight minutes of the second frame allowed the Bobcats to extend the lead. Xavier Trask finished the scoring on a corner kick, and Stillwell had two assists.

In goal, Richmond netminder Dustin Sullivan had two saves, while Rangeley’s (0-4) Gunner Johnson turned aside 21 shots. BREWER 0 MT. ARARAT 6

The host Eagles tallied three goals in each half for a KVAC win at Topsham on Saturday.

Robbie Small scored the opening two goals for 3-1-1 Mt. Ararat, which visits Lawrence on Tuesday. Mike Crawford, Ty Veno, Chris Pepin and Dan Pelletier chipped in one goal each, and Will Hirnak played well.

In goal, Gabe Pelletier and Jon Roux split time, each making one save.

In Western Maine Conference play on Saturday, Kevin Kanakan paced the host Flyers (4-0) with two scores and three helpers as Freeport dipped to 1-4- 1 and is scheduled to host Falmouth on Tuesday.

Landon Easler (assisted by (Logan Ning) scored the lone goal for the Falcons and goaltender Nick Nelsonwood and Brandon Qualls combined on seven saves.

At North Anson on Saturday, Dalton Burns scored with nine seconds remaining in the first half as the host Madison/Carrabec co-op squad picked up its first win.

Lisbon (1-4-1) outshot the Bulldogs (1-5) 12-2 in the first half.
