FREEPORT – While it’s hard to predict the outcomes of elections, one thing is certain. After Nov. 6, there will be at least one new face on the Freeport Town Council.

The local candidates for the Freeport town ballot have been set for the November election, and incumbent Councilor Charlotte Bishop will not be running for re-election as an at-large councilor. A call to Bishop was not returned by the Tri-Town Weekly’s deadline.

In the race for Bishop’s seat, the Freeport Town Clerk’s office said Melanie Sachs of Kelsey Ridge Road is running unopposed for the seat, which, like all Freeport Town Council seats, is for a three-year term.

In the other Town Council race, council Chairman James Cassida of Timber Ridge Road is running for re-election for the District 4 seat. Andrew Wellen of Hunter Road is opposing Cassida for the seat.

There will be no changes in representation from Freeport on the Regional School Unit 5 board of directors. The town clerk’s office said two seats will be up for grabs in November, but the only two candidates on the ballot are incumbents John Morang of Murch Road and Karin VanNostrand of Heron Pond Lane.

There are also no opposed races for the three seats up for grabs on the Freeport Sewer District Board of Trustees. Only three candidates, incumbents Leland Arris III of Circle Drive and Darrel Fournier of Fournier Drive, and Clinton Goodenow Jr. of Carter Road, will be on the ballot.

There were no candidates for the race for the seat on the Water District board and the town clerk’s office said a write-in candidate would fill that seat.

On Election Day, the polls in Freeport will be open from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. in the gymnasium at the Freeport High School, 30 Holbrook St., for the general and municipal election.

Absentee ballots will be available at the Freeport Town Clerk’s office beginning on Oct. 4. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Thursday, Nov. 1, at 6 p.m. Call the Freeport Town Clerk at 865-4743, ext. 123 for more details.
