TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat eighth-grade girls soccer team opened its season, downing Oak Hill 10-0 and edging rival Bath 2-1 to open the season 2-0.
Against Oak Hill at Sabattus, the Eagles jumped out to an 8-0 first-half lead and never looked back.
Katelyn Cox had three goals, while Karley McCourt scored twice, including one from a beautiful cross from Nikki Bradstreet as McCourt redirected the pass with her head. Ashley Parker, Lauren Labbay, Bradstreet and Anna Manuel added one goal each.
Maggie Garver, Kieley Hetherington and Ana Knight all chipped in with assists, while Isabel Burch played an amazing game on defense.
Versus Bath, both teams battled hard.
Knight, off an assist from Kathleen MacDonald, jumped out to a 1-0 lead.
Bath answered on a direct kick to tie the game, but Labbay passed to Manuel, who beat the Bath goaltender for the game-winning goal.
Kate Guerin had several saves in net, while Maggie Garver and Mikaila Cloutier played great defense.
