BRUNSWICK — With the signing of a $100,000 workforce training grant, Southern Maine Community College continues to ramp up its program offerings on the Mid-coast campus at Brunswick Landing, and will now provide training for more than 125 Maine residents in the growing field of medical device manufacturing.

Almost a year to the day after breaking ground on their Wound Care manufacturing plant at Brunswick Landing, representatives from Mölnlycke Health Care, U.S., LLC joined Ron Cantor, president of SMCC and Jim McGowan, director of the Maine Quality Centers program for the Maine Community College System, to sign a MQC workforce grant.

“Businesses are growing at the former Naval Air Station and SMCC is fueling the growth with skills that land jobs. This is one of several grants bringing partners together to train workers and build economic momentum,” Cantor said in a news release.

The grant will fund training for as many as 127 Mölnlycke Health Care employees post hire. Last June, Mölnlycke started construction on a $37 million facility in Brunswick.

The total investment in this project is $100,000.

The first round of trainings will focus on internal systems development and improving efficiencies through management.
