ENGAGED IN A ‘POLE SLIDE’ is Tristan Anderson, 16, of Camden, above, during a ribbon cutting celebration Wednesday at the Bath Youth Meetinghouse & Skatepark Center. “We kind of have a park in Camden, but it’s no way near as good as this,” Tristan said. At right, skaters, from left, Tyler Lewandowski, of Monmouth; Mason Small, of Bath; and Evan Freeman and Garrick Ridlon, both of Monmouth, wait to soar down the ramp. “We made the trip all way from Monmouth — like an hour, just one way — and it was this big party when we got here,” said Maia Freeman, Evan’s mom. “These kids are really happy to be here tonight.” The Skatepark reopened at the former armory site on Old Brunswick Road in July eight months after being forced to vacate its former home in the old YMCA building on Summer Street due to deteriorating building conditions. The armory building provides 8,000 square feet of city-owned space for kids to hang out after school with a skate center, pool tables, arcade games, computers and an inexpensive snack bar. The Skatepark is open Monday through Friday, 2 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, noon to 9 p.m.; Sunday noon to 6.
