Eighth-grader Xander Bartone of Bath took first place in both the junior poetry and junior prose divisions of the Norm Strung Youth Writing Competition, sponsored by the Outdoor Writers Association of America.

His poem, “Where Poems Hide for Me,” and his memoir, “For Sale,” won him a total of $500.

The competition challenges young writers to submit previously published work that address topics related to the outdoors.
