Friday, Oct. 12: Diva Concert 2012 at Unity of Greater Portland, 54 River Road, Windham, at 7 p.m. A concert celebrating the evolution and empowerment of women through song and dance.

Saturday, Oct. 13: Windham Hill UCC is sponsoring an electronic recycling event outside the Windham Mall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All towns can participate. Donations accepted to cover cost of organizing the event. Donations will also be used to support local mission needs via the church. Enter at Veterans Memorial Drive, next to Friendly’s. The following items will be accepted: TVs all sizes, computer monitors, hard drives, laptops, printers, cordless phones, cell phones, VCRs, DVD players, audio equipment, stereos, speakers. No household appliances (stoves, refrigerators, microwaves) will be accepted.

Oct. 13: The Athletics Department at Saint Joseph’s College is pleased to announce its “Kids Night Out” program dates for the upcoming year. The first “Kids Night Out” event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 13 and two dates – Nov. 17 and Dec. 1 – are scheduled with the need for holiday shopping and preparation in mind. “Kids Night Out” will also run on Feb. 9, March 2, March 23 and April 6. All events are held on Saturdays at the Harold Alfond Recreation Center on campus and will begin at 5:30 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. The event, open to children ages 7-13, sponsors games, movies, swimming, rock climbing, arts & crafts, and sports. The price is $12 per child and $6 for each additional child from the same family. Kids Night Out is sponsored and supervised by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Saint Joseph’s College. On-site registration on the evening of the event only (no pre-registration required and no phone calls necessary). Concessions available.

Oct. 13: 5-cent fall clothing sale, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Hollis Elementary School, 554 River Road (Route 35), Hollis. Oct. 13: For the benefit of the New Gloucester Veterans’ Monument fundraising campaign, a lively and heart warming musical review “USO Show” by Just For Fun will be held 7-10 p.m. at the New Gloucester AMVETS, Route 100, New Gloucester. Oct. 13: Scott Andrews of the Ski Museum of Maine talks about the history and development of the ski industry in Maine on the eve of the 75th anniversary of Shawnee Peak/Pleasant Mountain, the longest running ski area in Maine, opened Jan. 23, 1938. The talk begins at 2:30 p.m. at Hiram Historical Society, 20 Historical Ridge (off Schoolhouse Road, off Route 117 in Hiram village. Free and open to the public.

Monday, Oct. 15: A rabies clinic takes place 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Sebago Lake Congregational Church, 410 Northeast Road, Sebago Lake Village. $10 per pet. Cash only. Please bring previous rabies certificate. Dogs on leashes and cats in cages. Vaccines administered by Standish Veterinary Hospital.

Oct. 17, 20: Lake Region Community Theatre is holding auditions at Stevens Brook Elementary School on Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 6:45-8:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 20, from 10 a.m.-noon for the January production of Joe Bologna and Renee Taylor’s “Lovers and Other Strangers.” This hilarious Samuel French, Inc. production will take you inside the complex world of relationships and all the drama and fun that is involved. Needed: six women and six men. Age range: early 20s to 60. Requirements: A reading from the script. The show dates and times are Jan. 25, 26 and 27 at Lake Region High School. The show is directed by Mary Bastoni and produced by Janet Ver Planck, Jyselle Watkins and Lew Krainin of Lake Region Community Theatre. Oct. 19-20: Gray Public Library Fall Book Sale. On Friday, check out the early-bird sale from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Entry is $5 per person. On Saturday, the book sale runs 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Books, audio books, music and movies at great prices.

Saturday, Oct. 20: Faith Lutheran Church, 988 Roosevelt Trail, North Windham, is having a Harvest Dinner and Cabaret. Lots of wonderful local entertainment as well as a Harvest Dinner consisting of beef barley soup, homemade sweet breads, autumn salad, glazed ham, scalloped potatoes, butternut squash with ginger, apple or pumpkin pie for dessert, soft drinks and coffee. Oct. 20: Delicious fresh baked goods will be for sale at the Gray Public Library Book Sale from 9-1 p.m. Baked goods can be dropped off at the library on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning. Sponsored by the Caring Community of GNG, all proceeds will be used to purchase food for Thanksgiving and Christmas Food Baskets. Information will be available at the table if you have any questions on how to apply for holiday assistance, how to become a sponsor/adopt a holiday family and how to make a donation. The book sale, sponsored by the Gray Public Library Association, will run from 9-2 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 21: Join Adriane Kramer and Girl Power Fitness for a “Party in Pink” Zumbathon charity event benefiting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure! 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Silver Spur, Mechanic Falls. There will be food, entertainment, vendor tables, contests, raffles, a silent auction and three hours of Zumba. Last year’s “Party in Pink” was the largest in New England and made it into the pages of Z LIFE magazine, which has an international circulation. Tickets are $25 in advance, $35 at the door. Monday, Oct. 22: ADHD Training Workshop, 6-8 p.m. Speaker Torrey Harrison from Tri County Mental Health Services will speak on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Topics will include normal range of childhood attention and activity, onset of disorders on the ADHD spectrum, symptoms in toddlers and preschoolers, symptoms in school age children, basic supports for preschool children living with ADHD including environment and behavior interventions, basic supports for school age children living with ADHD including environment and behavior interventions, talking with parents, questions and answers. Saturday, Nov. 10: Standish Congregational Church, Oak Hill Road, is hosting a Village Square Fair, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring apple fritters, baked goods, cookie walk, jams and preserves, crafts, silent auction, bargain basement. A luncheon takes place 11 a.m.-2 p.m. with homemade chowders, stews and chili.

You won’t believe your eyes when you see all the beautiful new and gently used clothing, mostly name-brands, most $1 or less. Open Saturdays from noon-4 p.m. or by appointment.
