HEARTWOOD REGIONAL THEATER COMPANY will bring “Godspell” to the stage Oct. 19 to kick off its 10th season. “Godspell” was conceived and originally directed by John-Michael Tebelak, with music and new lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, best known for “Pippin” and “Wicked.” It features many well-loved songs including “Day by Day,” “All for the Best,” “Turn Back, O Man” and “Beautiful City.”
Solo and group numbers spring from a series of parables based on the Gospel of Matthew, performed by an energetic, young ensemble of actors and singers.
Begun as a college project, the musical moved to an off- Broadway debut in 1970, and “Godspell” has since been a favorite in professional revivals, including 2011, in colleges, and in high schools.
Evening performances will run in the Poe Theater at Lincoln Academy on Oct. 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m.; two Sunday matinees will run at 3 p.m. on Oct. 21 and 28.
Tickets are $8 for students through high school and $16 for adults. Seating is general, unless specially requested in advance.
