A high-speed chase from Topsham to Brunswick early Sunday led to the arrest of a 21-year-old Topsham man.

Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Chief Deputy Brett Strout said Cpl. Ian Alexander was driving west on Route 196 in Topsham at about 12:50 a.m. Sunday when he observed a 1999 GMC pickup speeding toward him and attempted to stop the vehicle.

Alexander followed the pickup at speeds more than 30 mph over the speed limit, from the Route 196-U.S. Route 201 intersection along the Coastal Connector and Route 1 to the Lowe’s home improvement store on Bath Road in Brunswick.

Alexander stopped the vehicle in the Lowe’s parking lot and was assisted by deputies and Brunswick police officers, Strout said.

Nathan Almy, 21, of 284 Meadow Road, Topsham, was arrested and charged with eluding a police officer, criminal speed and operating beyond license restrictions; he also was issued a summons alleging possession of a usable amount of marijuana.

He was taken to Bath Police Department and posted $1,000 unsecured bail.
