BANGOR (AP) — Democratic U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud and Republican challenger Kevin Raye have sparred over which candidate for Maine’s 2nd District seat has a more bipartisan spirit.
Michaud, a five-term incumbent, and Raye, the state Senate president, met at a lunchtime debate sponsored by WFVX Fox in Bangor. It was the first formal exchange between the two during the campaign.
MaineToday Media reports that in the end, both candidates declared victory. Three more debates are scheduled before the election.
Michaud and Raye agreed on a number of issues, too. Both would consider closing some U.S. military bases in foreign countries to reduce spending. They both also favor an energy policy that would limit dependence on foreign oil.
