KITTERY — Freeport goaltender Tallie Martin made 18 saves, but Kendra Kagiliery put home the game’s only goal 4:47 into overtime to lift the Traip Academy field hockey team to a 1-0 Western Maine Class B quarterfinal win over the fifth-seeded Falcons.

“Tallie played phenomenal, and was the backbone for us in this game,” said Freeport coach Sara Dimick, whose Falcons finished the season 5-9-1. “I am so proud of this group of players. They played so hard, worked together and never lost their focus.”

Caitlyn Vera assisted on the goal, and Rangers (9-5-1) netminder Emily Bolton had three saves.

Traip, the No. 4 seed, is scheduled to visit No. 1 Lisbon on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Freeport had the first chance in overtime, but Bolton made two stops to keep the Rangers alive.

Freeport graduates Bethany Bellefleur, Dayze Gaulin, Rebecca Harrison, Kayley Johnson, Korissa Lavers, Lorin Martens, Martin and Reilly Parker.

“Those seniors were so important to this program,” remarked Dimick. “They motivated this team, stayed positive. Even this last game, most of the time we were on defense and they kept Traip from scoring through regulation and lot of the overtime. That speaks volumes to their importance.”
