To the Editor:
As I saw my father, my husband and then my sons off to war, I said a prayer and thought, “No one wants peace more than the members of the military and their families.”
It concerns me that fewer and fewer members of the House and Senate have any understanding of what they send our nation’s treasure into. Charlie Summers speaks to that concern.
Charlie has run his own small business and successfully lobbied for a Small Business Advocate in Maine. He will advocate for a National Small Business Advocate in Washington. Charlie speaks to the survival of small business.
No one disputes that the increasing burden of health care must be addressed. But is bigger government the answer? Charlie calls for allowing businesses and individuals to purchase health insurance, like any other insurance, from the lowest cost, highest-quality provider anywhere in the United States. My husband and I found the best and least expensive insurance for our cars in Texas. And Charlie advocates making that cost 100 percent deductible.
I’m voting for Charlie Summer because he has been where we have been and taken the time to learn our concerns.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
