Benefits discussion for veterans Nov. 7

Scott Karczewski, director of the Togas Veterans Center, and Charles “Chuck” Pervier, case supervisior at Togus, will lead an open discussion of veteran’s concerns at the People Plus Center on Wednesday, Nov. 7, beginning at 7 p.m.

People Plus board member Jack Hudson, himself a former veteran’s service center manager, will introduce the pair.

“Not a week before Veteran’s Day,” member services coordinator Frank Connors observed, “this is a wonderful time to open a dialogue between Togus officials and veterans living in the Brunswick area.”

Karczewski and Pervier, visited the center six months ago, offering guide books and advice to nearly four dozen veterans of three different wars. Hudson, when encouraging the session said, “if you haven’t visited a VA facility in the past few years, you’ll notice a remarkable difference.”

To register, call the People Plus information desk at 729- 0757.

Fall food collection sets 1,000 pound goal

In an effort to make everyone’s holiday a little brighter, the People Plus Center will run it’s fourth annual Holiday Food Drive during November.

“My little red wheelbarrow is coming back,” member services coordinator Frank Connors said. “We hope to collect 1,000 thousand items of food, weighing 1,000 pounds.”

All food stuffs raised will be donated to the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program.

“MCHPP has what amounts to a constant and unending need,” observed Rebecca Banks, program and outreach coordinator at People Plus.

The center will accept any food products, of a non-perishable nature, and ensure they are delivered to MCHPP.

“We have a thousand members at People Plus, and I happen to believe some of the Brunswick area’s most caring individuals are among them,” Connors added. “What a wonderful way to open the holiday season, if each and every one of us brought in just one can of food to this effort. Collectively, it would make a huge difference.”

Estate planning a focus of lunch talks

Please join People Plus for two brown bag luncheons — bring a “bagged” lunch and the center provides drinks and dessert — in November to discuss estate planning issues.

On Nov. 1, Eileen Epstein leads “The ABCs of Estate Planning.”

Estate planning articles frequently refer to wills, trusts, powers of attorney, living wills and advance health-care directives as being important documents for all to have signed.

Epstein, an estate planning attorney at Epstein & O’Donovan LLP, in Portland, will answer these questions and others during the noontime luncheon.
