LAMOINE (AP) — Law enforcement officials were searching today for a suspect after two men were shot to death in a home the suspect shared with the victims in this coastal community.
The state police tactical team was dispatched to provide support, and parents were advised not let their children outside on school bus routes. Tracking dogs were on the scene.
“We have someone who’s armed and dangerous. It’s best that residents be aware of their surroundings and call us with anything suspicious,” said Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Authorities were looking for 27-year-old Leon Tilden, who lives at the home where the bodies were located. He is 5-foot-6, weighs about 125 pounds, and has brown hair and blue eyes.
Police were alerted at about 3:45 a.m. about the shootings in this coastal town of 1,600 residents, which is on the mainland across Eastern Bay from Mount Desert Island.
State police say Tilden’s vehicle remained at the residence, so it’s possible he fled on foot.
The names of the victims have not been made public. McCausland did not disclose additional details about the deaths.
